Warehouse locations are shelf, bin or rack labels on each variant, for example B.L09.3.0. They tell your warehouse team where an item sits, and TRAEDE can use them to sort picking lists and shipment documents. Each variant has a main Warehouse location and an optional Secondary warehouse location.
Important: Warehouse locations do not hold stock quantities. Stock is tracked per inventory location, such as "Danish warehouse" or "German warehouse". A warehouse location only tells you where in the warehouse an item sits.
Warehouse location vs. inventory location
| Warehouse location | Inventory location | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A shelf or bin label on a variant | A physical warehouse or stock pool |
| Holds stock quantities | No | Yes |
| Where you set it | On the product's variants | Settings → Inventory Locations |
| Example | B.L09.3.0 |
Danish warehouse |
A warehouse location isn't linked to a specific inventory location. You can use any format, because TRAEDE doesn't validate the text.
Setting locations on a product
- Open the product and scroll to the Variants table.
- Click Columns.
- Tick Secondary warehouse location. Only Warehouse location is shown by default.
- Click Quick edit.
- Type the location labels for each variant.
- Click Save.
Tip: Your column choice is saved in your browser. Colleagues, or you on another computer, may see different columns.
Anyone who can edit product data can change warehouse locations.
Other ways to set locations
- Product import: Use the columns Warehouse location and Secondary warehouse location. An empty cell clears the existing value, so leave the column out of the file if you don't want to change it.
- Warehouse scanner: Scan the item and open the edit variant screen and scan the warehouse label (or enter the location name manually)
You can't set warehouse locations from Add variants, the Update data bulk action, the product master data form or the bulk product editor.
Where warehouse locations are used
| Where | What you see | Locations used |
|---|---|---|
| Warehouse scanner | The main location, with the secondary location as a note | Both |
| Returns | Both locations on the return screen | Both |
| Stock counts | Both locations are shown. Scan a shelf label to find the products on it. | Both |
| Product and inventory exports | One column for each location | Both |
| Product list filter | Filter by Warehouse location | Main only |
| Sorting and packing routes | See below | Main only |
Sorting picks by warehouse location
Sorting by location lets the warehouse team walk the warehouse in shelf order, so they don't have to jump between aisles. Sorting uses the main Warehouse location only.
- Go to app store -> shipments
- Enable Sort items by warehouse location in warehouse scanner and on shipment document.
- Optional: enable Treat warehouse location as a number if your locations are numbers. This sorts
2before10. Without it,10comes before2. - Click Save.
Packing routes also follow the main warehouse location.
Printing shelf labels
Location labels you enter are also saved in a list of shelf locations. You can print barcode labels from that list and put them on your shelves, so the team can scan them during stock counts.
- Go to settings -> warehouse locations
- Select the shelf locations you want labels for.
- Click either download warehouse labels or Print warehouse labels
