“Could not import order from Shopify — SKU not found in Traede”

  • Updated

This error means a Shopify order contains a product Traede doesn't recognize. Traede matches Shopify order lines to products by SKU, so either the Shopify variant has no SKU, or its SKU doesn't match any SKU in Traede.

The order isn't lost. It stays in Shopify and imports automatically as soon as the SKUs match.
Flow: does the product have a SKU in Shopify, does that SKU exist in Traede, fix, re-import

Find the product in Shopify

  1. Copy the Shopify product ID from the error message, for example 15573911798105.
  2. Open the product in Shopify using that ID.
  3. Check the SKU field on the variant that was ordered.

Make the SKUs match

What you fix depends on what you find:

  • No SKU in Shopify — add one, using the SKU of the matching product in Traede.
  • SKU in Shopify, but not in Traede — create the product in Traede with that exact SKU under Products → Add product.
  • SKU in both, but spelled differently — correct one of them so they're identical. Capitalization doesn't matter.

Re-import the order

Go to App Store → Document Exchange and re-import the order. Traede creates the order as soon as the SKUs match.

Important to know

  • Traede never renames SKUs automatically. If you change a SKU in one system, change it in the other too.
  • If the order line is a custom sale or a manual POS line with no product behind it, the cause is a missing placeholder SKU instead — see the related article below.
  • If the SKUs already match and the order still won't import, contact Traede support with the details from the notification email: Document Exchange IDorder_numbershopify_product_id, and sku_sent_by_shopify.
