This error appears when a Shopify order includes a custom or manual line that isn't tied to a real product — for example, a line added directly on a POS sale. TRAEDE needs a placeholder product to attach those lines to before it can import the order.
Step 1 — Create a placeholder product in TRAEDE
- Go to Products → Add product.
- Give it a clear name, such as
Custom saleorPOS. - Create one variant and give it a simple, memorable SKU, such as
POSorCUSTOM. - Go to the products master data, scroll down to inventory and click Show advanced and checkmark Skip inventory for product.
- Save the product.
Tip: Use a dedicated placeholder product for this, rather than an existing real product — that way it won't affect stock on anything you actually sell.
Step 2 — Tell Shopify to use it
- Go to App Store → Shopify integration settings.
- Click Edit on the given Shopify shop.
- Find the field Use SKU POS order lines without a product.
- Type in the exact SKU you created (e.g.
POS). - Click Save.
Step 3 — Re-import the order
Any Shopify line without a product will now be attached to your placeholder product.
Important notes
- The SKU you type into the setting must exactly match the SKU of a product that actually exists in TRAEDE for your brand (capitalization doesn't matter). If it doesn't match, you'll see a different error instead — "SKU not found in Traede" — just correct the SKU in the setting.
- This setting is per Shopify shop. If you have more than one Shopify connection, each one needs it filled in separately.
