A tiered discount raises the discount when the quantity in a group reaches a step. It applies on a B2B order when the policy is active and the product is active.
¢For example, 5 pieces can give 40%, and 10 pieces can give 50%.
Create a tiered discount policy
A tiered discount policy stores the steps that you can assign to products.
- Go to Settings → Sales settings → Tiered Discount Policies in the left menu.
- Click Add new tiered discount policy.
- Enter a Name.
- Leave Active checked when orders should use the policy.
- In Split by attributes, select the attributes that split the quantity. Leave this empty to count the whole product as one group. The list then shows Whole product.
- Under Discount steps, click Add step.
- Enter Min quantity and Percentage for the step. Add a step for each quantity level.
- Click Save. The message is The tiered discount policy was created.
| Field | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Name | The name of the policy. You see this name on the product. | Yes |
| Active | Orders use the policy only when this is checked. A new policy starts as active. | No |
| Split by attributes | The attributes that split the quantity into groups. Empty means Whole product. | No |
| Discount steps | The quantity levels and their percentages. Add at least one step. | Yes |
| Min quantity | The number of pieces that unlocks the step. Use a whole number of at least 1. Each step needs its own min quantity. | Yes |
| Percentage | The discount for that step. Use a whole number from 0 to 100. Each percentage must be at least as high as steps with a lower min quantity. | Yes |
Edit or delete a policy
Click Edit on the policy row to open Update tiered discount policy. Click Save. The message is The tiered discount policy was updated.
Click Delete to remove a policy. Confirm Are you sure you want to delete this tiered discount policy? The policy is removed from every product, and the overrides on those products are deleted.
If you remove a step and save, the overrides for that step are deleted.
Assign a policy to a product
Assign one policy to each product that should use the discount.
- Go to Products → Product list.
- Open the product.
- Click Sales prices, then Tiered discounts.
- In Apply tiered discount policy, select the policy. An inactive policy shows (Inactive) after its name.
- Check Active. This checkbox stays disabled until a policy is selected.
- Click Save.
The Tiered discounts tab shows Active or Inactive. When the discount is active, the product shows Tiered Discount: and the policy name under the product name.
On the product list, click Manage columns and turn on Tiered discount policy to see the policy name.
Important: If you change or clear the policy, confirm Changing or clearing the policy will delete all tiered discount overrides on this product. Continue? The overrides on that product are then deleted.
Override percentages on a product
Use the table on Tiered discounts when one split or one currency needs a different percentage.
Each column is a step, such as 5+. Each row is one split. With no split attributes, the row says The tiered discount policy is applied to all variants of the product.
- Type a percentage in a cell to override that step.
- Leave a cell empty to use the policy percentage. Clear a saved percentage and click Save to remove the override.
- Click Save. The message is Tiered discount overrides were saved.
If the brand has more than one currency, click the currency code above the table. Save the table before you switch currency. For another currency, an empty cell uses the base-currency override. If that override is also empty, the cell uses the policy percentage.
A percentage must be a whole number from 0 to 100. Each percentage must be at least as high as steps with a lower min quantity.
How the discount applies on an order
The discount applies on a B2B order when the policy is Active and Active is checked on the product. It does not apply on a B2C order or a dropshipping order.
How quantity is counted
Pieces in the same split are added together. The highest step that the total reaches sets the percentage on the lines in that split.
With no split attributes, all variants of the product count as one group. If you split by Color, each color is its own group. Sizes in that color are added together.
Pieces on different drops are not added together. Pieces on deliveries of the same drop are added together.
What the order shows
The unit price shows the discount percentage. A tag means Tiered discount applied. If only some variants on the row have the discount, the tag means Tiered discount applied to some variants.
A hint under the price shows how many pieces are left until the next step, for example +1 more for 15%.
The same rules and the same hint apply in the B2B webshop.
Other discounts on the line
A customer discount stays on the line until a tier percentage is higher. The two discounts are not added together.
A discount you enter on a line stays on that line. An employee discount stays on that line. Those pieces still count toward the step for the other lines in the split.
Clear Active on the policy, or clear Active on the product, and the discount does not apply.
