How to set up shipping cost

  • Updated

Traede can add shipping cost to orders automatically. You set a default rate for your brand, refine it per country or region, and override it for individual customers. The most specific setting wins: customer → country → region → brand.

Note: Shipping cost used to be an app in the App Store. It is now part of the core platform — there is nothing to install. All settings live under Settings.

The three calculation modes

Every level uses the same Shipping cost calculation mode dropdown:

Mode How it works
Fixed amount A flat cost per order, regardless of order value. Added to the order when it is created.
Per colli The rate times the number of boxes packed. Calculated at fulfilment, when the warehouse knows the box count — the order itself shows no shipping.
Percentage of delivery value A percentage of the order value. You can add a Shipping cost minimum so small orders are never undercharged.

Setting a default for your brand

  1. Go to Settings → Sales settings.
  2. Scroll to the Fulfilment section.
  3. Select a Shipping cost calculation mode and enter the rate in the Shipping cost field.
  4. Check Shipping is VAT eligible if VAT should be calculated on top of the shipping amount.
  5. Click Save.

This default applies to all orders unless a country, region, or customer setting overrides it.

Setting rates per country or region

Most brands charge different rates for different markets. Country and region settings override the brand default for customers in that location.

  1. Go to Settings → Country settings and open the country (or region) you want to configure. See the Country settings walkthrough if you haven't added countries yet.
  2. Scroll to the Shipping costs & handling fees section.
  3. Select a Shipping cost calculation mode and enter the rate in the Shipping cost field. The amount is in the country's currency.
  4. Check Shipping is VAT eligible if VAT applies to shipping.
  5. Optionally enter an amount in Shipping cost free if order above to give free shipping on large orders.
  6. Click Save.

Tip: To stop a country from having its own rule and fall back to the brand default, clear the Shipping cost calculation mode dropdown. This empties the cost field and the layer below takes over.

Overriding for a specific customer

Customer settings beat every other level.

  1. Open the customer's profile and go to Master data.
  2. Find the shipping cost fields, select a Shipping cost calculation mode, and enter the rate in Shipping cost.
  3. Click Save.

To remove the override later, check Use country default next to the field — the customer falls back to their country's settings.

By default the rate is picked based on the customer's delivery country. Check Use invoice country for shipping cost calculation instead of delivery country on the customer if their invoicing country should decide instead.

Free shipping

Two ways to give free shipping, both on the customer's Master data page:

  • Free shipping if above — orders over this amount ship free. Overrides the country-level threshold for this customer.
  • Always give the customer free shipping — every order ships free, regardless of value.

For a whole market, use Shipping cost free if order above on the country settings page instead.
