Hardware needed for scanner setup

  • Updated

Introduction

This guide outlines the hardware needed for setting up a barcode scanner for use with TRAEDE. It is useful for any user setting up a physical scanner system, especially in a retail or warehouse environment. The recommended hardware and configuration are based on our internal setup and best practices.

Scanner setup

We recommend using scanners from Zebra due to their reliability and integration compatibility. Below is the standard scanner setup we use internally.

Scanner model

  • Zebra TC20 (traditional model)

  • Zebra TC26 (newer model — recommended)

🆕 Update: While we have traditionally used the Zebra TC20, we now recommend the Zebra TC26. It features a faster processor, a larger screen, and improved responsiveness. The TC20 still works, but if you're buying new hardware, we suggest choosing the TC26.

What to buy

When purchasing a scanner, note that a charger is NOT included by default. This is intentional, as most setups do not require one charger per scanner. For instance, you might use one docking station for every two scanners.

Here is what constitutes one complete scanner setup:

  • Zebra TC20 or TC26 handheld scanner

  • Docking station

  • Charging cable

  • Power supply

Please refer to your operational needs when deciding the number of docking stations and chargers.
