Introduction
This article explains how order import works when bringing Shopify orders into TRAEDE. Before enabling synchronization, you must configure the basic settings and decide whether your Shopify store uses standard Shopify shipping rates or a freight plugin such as Webshipper or Shipmondo. This introduction covers the fundamentals, and the next articles will explain the two setups in detail.
This guide is relevant for all TRAEDE users who want to automate order creation from Shopify.
Step 1: Enable order import
To begin importing Shopify orders into TRAEDE:
Go to the Shopify integration settings.
Activate Import orders into TRAEDE.
This allows TRAEDE to begin receiving new orders from Shopify.
Step 2: Choose whether to import order prefixes
Shopify supports customizing order prefixes, which helps ensure that order numbers from different stores do not conflict.
We strongly recommend:
Creating a unique prefix for each Shopify store
Enabling Import order prefix in TRAEDE
This ensures order numbers remain unique across multiple stores.
Step 3: Ensure all base settings are configured
If you have not already completed the initial installation settings (B2C customer, payment term, drops, webhooks), complete those now. These were covered in the guide How to install Shopify and add new stores.
These settings must be correct before you begin importing orders.
Step 4: Choosing how shipping methods are interpreted
When Shopify sends an order to TRAEDE, TRAEDE needs to understand which shipping method to use.
There are two possible setups:
Not using a freight plugin (standard Shopify shipping rates)
Using a freight plugin (Webshipper, Shipmondo, etc.)
Your choice determines how TRAEDE maps the Shopify shipping method to a TRAEDE shipping method.
Option 1: Not using a freight plugin (standard Shopify rates)
If your Shopify shipping rates look like this:
Free shipping
Standard shipping
Express shipping
…and you are not using Webshipper or Shipmondo to provide rates, then:
You should select Manual as the Shopify shipping method type in TRAEDE.
This tells TRAEDE that Shopify’s shipping rates are created inside Shopify itself.
Option 2: Using a freight plugin (Webshipper, Shipmondo, etc.)
Many stores use a freight plugin because Shopify does not support drop points by default.
A freight plugin is required if you want customers to choose:
GLS Parcel Shop
Bring Pickup Point
DAO Shop Delivery
Any other drop point–based delivery
If you use a plugin:
You must set the shipping method type in TRAEDE to the freight plugin you use (e.g. Webshipper).
All shipping rates in Shopify must come from the plugin.
You cannot mix Shopify’s own rates with plugin-provided rates.
In Shopify, your shipping rates list should clearly say:
“Rates provided by Webshipper App”
“Rates provided by Shipmondo App”
If you see a mix of default Shopify rates and plugin rates, synchronization will not work correctly.
Why this distinction matters
The shipping method mapping determines how TRAEDE:
Understands drop point selections
Identifies carrier types
Connects to label-generation flows
Books freight via plugins (if used)
Your setup must match the type of rates you use in Shopify.
What happens next?
In the next two guides, we will cover:
How to import orders when NOT using a freight plugin
How to import orders when USING a freight plugin
These guides will show you exactly how to map shipping methods and handle special cases such as drop points.
