Introduction
This article explains how collections in TRAEDE synchronize to Shopify. It is important to understand that collections in TRAEDE and collections in Shopify serve very different purposes. Because of this, TRAEDE does not synchronize into Shopify’s collection field, but you can choose to synchronize TRAEDE collections as tags.
This guide is useful for users managing product grouping, seasons, or fashion collections in TRAEDE while using Shopify for storefront navigation.
TRAEDE collections vs. Shopify collections
Collections in TRAEDE are typically used for:
Seasonal collections (e.g. AW21, SS22)
Fashion drops
Internal product grouping
In Shopify, collections are used very differently:
For storefront navigation
For filtering and grouping products (e.g. Shoes, Bags, Sale)
Often automated based on tags or product types
Because of this, the two systems do not share the same meaning of “collection.”
TRAEDE does not populate Shopify’s collection field
TRADE never fills out Shopify’s built-in Collections field.
This field is intentionally left empty because:
Shopify collections are best managed directly in Shopify
Most customers use automated collections
Shopify collections often depend on theme logic, conditions, and navigation structure
Synchronizing TRAEDE collections as tags
Although TRAEDE does not sync to Shopify’s collection field, you can choose to send TRAEDE collections as tags.
Example:
TRADE collection = AW21
Shopify tags received = AW21
To enable this:
Go to the Shopify integration settings in TRAEDE
Activate Sync collections as tags
When enabled:
Any collection assigned to a product in TRAEDE
→ will synchronize to Shopify as a tag
Which you can then use for Shopify’s automated collections or theme rules
Recommended usage
We recommend:
Keeping Shopify’s Collections empty and using automated collections
Letting TRAEDE collections synchronize as tags if you need them for filtering
Avoiding manual collection assignments in Shopify, as tags provide more flexibility
