Introduction
This article gives you a high-level overview of how the Shopify integration works in TRAEDE. It’s the first step in understanding how TRAEDE synchronizes data with Shopify. Later articles will go into depth with setup, configuration, and advanced topics such as shipping rates, fulfillment, and returns.
This guide is relevant for all TRAEDE users looking to connect and manage one or multiple Shopify stores through TRAEDE.
How the TRAEDE–Shopify integration works
Multiple Shopify stores, one TRAEDE backend
You can connect multiple Shopify stores to one TRAEDE account.
This is commonly used when selling in multiple currencies or markets.
TRAEDE acts as the central master system for all product data.
TRAEDE is the source of truth
TRAEDE always pushes data to Shopify — it never pulls data from Shopify.
TRAEDE decides what data is correct.
Shopify receives product data, images, and inventory from TRAEDE.
You can choose not to sync certain fields (e.g., product descriptions), but the sync is always one-way.
What is synchronized?
Product data (names, prices, tags, etc.)
Images
Inventory
These are sent from TRAEDE to Shopify. The product templates (design, layout) are handled in Shopify or by your agency — TRAEDE does not manage this.
Order flow and fulfillment
A customer places an order in Shopify.
The order is automatically imported into TRAEDE as a web order.
Fulfillment of the order happens in TRAEDE.
TRAEDE sends:
Fulfillment status back to Shopify
Capture (payment confirmation)
Refunds (if processed in TRAEDE)
⚠️ TRAEDE does not support fulfillment being handled in Shopify. Fulfillment must be done in TRAEDE.
Using Shopify Plus
TRAEDE has strong support for Shopify Plus features.
Recommended if you're scaling your brand or managing multiple storefronts.
You can handle more advanced flows and automation.
Shipping and rate integrations
Shipping rates can be handled in two ways:
Standard Shopify shipping rates
Shipping plugins like:
Webshipper
Shipmondo
These plugins allow more advanced freight handling, which will be covered in later articles.
Payment and capture process
TRAEDE does not interact directly with payment providers.
When TRAEDE fulfills an order:
A capture is sent to Shopify.
Shopify communicates with the payment provider to process the capture.
The quality of this process depends on the payment provider’s integration with Shopify.
💡 Some payment providers do not support automatic refunds, which means TRAEDE cannot trigger the refund in Shopify.
We recommend contacting TRAEDE support for a list of well-supported payment providers.
Summary
TRAEDE is the master system — it pushes product, image, and inventory data to Shopify.
Orders placed in Shopify are fulfilled in TRAEDE.
TRAEDE handles the entire fulfillment flow, including capture and refund.
Shopify templates and payment integrations are managed outside of TRAEDE.
Further configuration details will be covered in follow-up guides.
