Understanding the product structure in TRAEDE

What is a product model and what are variants?

In TRAEDE, a product is considered a model. For example, the “Oslo shoe” is a model that exists in multiple colors and sizes. These variations are known as variants.

Each variant represents a unique combination of attributes such as color and size.

Product attributes

When you create a product, you define the attributes it has. Common attributes include:

  • Color

  • Size

However, depending on what you sell, attributes can differ. For example:

  • A laptop might have hard disk size or screen size.

  • A shoe that only comes in different sizes (but not colors) would only have the size attribute.

The variants table

When you open a product, scroll down to find the variants table, which displays all the different combinations of attributes for that product.

In the Oslo shoe example:

  • Colors: Black, Light Grey, Beige

  • Sizes: Each color comes in multiple sizes

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

Each variant in TRAEDE is identified by a unique SKU. This is a crucial part of inventory management.

Key points:

  • Required: Every variant must have a SKU

  • Unique: SKUs must be unique across all variants in your system

  • Used to track individual variations and their stock levels

EAN (European Article Number)

  • Optional in TRAEDE

  • Acts as a barcode for the product

  • Can be autogenerated if needed - Help center article here

  • Is often required if using a third-party warehouse

Item number

The item number identifies the product model itself (not the variants).

Key points:

  • Required

  • Must be unique

  • Can be a number, text, or both

  • Can be autogenerated if needed - Help center article here
