Converting to 3PL shipping codes without webshipper

  • Updated

Introduction

This article shows you how to set up shipping method conversions in TRAEDE when you do not use Webshipper.

Typical scenario:
Your B2C shipping method in Shopify or WooCommerce is called “DHL Express”, but your 3PL only understands its own shipping code (for example 25407). By setting up a shipping method conversion in TRAEDE, you make sure that:

  • The Shopify/WooCommerce shipping method name (e.g. DHL Express)

  • Is automatically converted to the correct 3PL shipping code (e.g. 25407)

  • Before TRAEDE sends the order to your 3PL (for example Prime Cargo)

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you have:

  • A B2C shipping method in TRAEDE that sends orders to your 3PL (for example “B2C – Prime Cargo”)

  • One or more shipping methods in Shopify or WooCommerce (for example “DHL Express”)

  • A list of shipping codes from your 3PL

    • Most 3PLs can provide an Excel sheet/table listing all carrier services and their internal codes

Convert Shopify shipping methods to 3pl codes

Step 1 – Open Shopify app settings in TRAEDE

  1. In TRAEDE, go to App store.

  2. Click on the Shopify app.

  3. Inside the Shopify app, go to Settings.

  4. Find the section called Shipping method conversions.

Step 2 – Add a new conversion

  1. In the Shipping method conversions section, click Add new conversion.

  2. A new line or form appears where you will see fields similar to:

    • From (or Shipping method name)

    • To (3PL shipping code)

    • Order carrier

Step 3 – Enter the Shopify shipping method name (From)

In the From field, you must enter the exact name of the shipping method as it appears to your customer in Shopify.

Example:

  • In Shopify, the shipping method is called “DHL Express”.

  • Then in TRAEDE, in the From field, you type:

    • DHL Express (must match the spelling and spacing from Shopify)

This tells TRAEDE:

“Whenever an order comes from Shopify with shipping method name DHL Express, apply this conversion.”

Step 4 – Enter the 3pl shipping code (To)

Now you need to enter the 3PL shipping code in the To field.

  1. Look up the shipping code in the Excel sheet or document you received from your 3PL.

  2. Find the line that matches the shipping service you want (for example DHL Express).

  3. Copy the 3PL shipping code, for example 25407.

  4. Paste or type this code into the To field in TRAEDE.

Example:

  • From: DHL Express

  • To: 25407

Interpretation:

“When Shopify says the customer chose DHL Express, TRAEDE will send shipping code 25407 to the 3PL.”

Step 5 – Select the order carrier

The last step is to select the Order carrier.

  1. In the Order carrier dropdown, choose the carrier that matches the shipping method.

    • Example: select DHL.

  2. Save your changes.

Your conversion now looks like:

  • From: DHL Express

  • To: 25407

  • Order carrier: DHL

Whenever a customer selects DHL Express in Shopify:

  • The order arrives in TRAEDE with the shipping method name DHL Express

  • TRAEDE looks up the matching conversion

  • TRAEDE converts it to shipping code 25407 and carrier DHL when sending the order to your 3PL

Convert woocommerce shipping methods to 3pl codes

If you are using WooCommerce instead of Shopify, the logic is exactly the same – you just configure it in the WooCommerce app in TRAEDE.

Step 1 – Open WooCommerce app settings

  1. In TRAEDE, go to App store.

  2. Click on the WooCommerce app.

  3. Find the section called Shipping method conversions.

Step 2 – Add a new conversion for WooCommerce

  1. Click Add new conversion.

  2. In the From field, enter the exact WooCommerce shipping method name as the customer sees it (for example DHL Express).

  3. In the To field, enter the 3PL shipping code, for example 25407.

  4. Select the appropriate Order carrier (for example DHL).

  5. Save.

Example:

  • From: DHL Express

  • To: 25407

  • Order carrier: DHL

Result:
Whenever a WooCommerce order comes in with DHL Express, TRAEDE will convert it to shipping code 25407 before sending it to your 3PL.

How the conversion works on real orders

Using Shopify as an example (WooCommerce is identical in principle):

  1. A customer places an order in Shopify and chooses “DHL Express” at checkout.

  2. The order is sent from Shopify to TRAEDE with the shipping method name DHL Express.

  3. TRAEDE receives the order and checks shipping method conversions.

  4. TRAEDE finds a rule:

    • From DHL Express → To 25407 → Carrier DHL

  5. When TRAEDE sends this order to the 3PL (for example Prime Cargo), it uses:

    • Shipping code: 25407

    • Carrier: DHL

This ensures the 3PL gets the correct shipping code, even though the webshop uses a friendly name like DHL Express.

Troubleshooting – orders arriving with the wrong shipping code

If an order arrives at your 3PL with the wrong shipping code or with the webshop name instead of a code, check the following:

1. Did you create a shipping method conversion?

  • Go to TRAEDE → App storeShopify or WooCommerceShipping method conversions.

  • Check whether a conversion exists for the shipping method in question.

  • If there is no conversion, the 3PL might receive the webshop name (for example DHL Express) instead of a 3PL code.

2. Does the “From” value match the webshop shipping name exactly?

  • Go to Shopify or WooCommerce and check the exact spelling of the shipping method name.

  • Check that the From field in TRAEDE is identical (same spelling, spaces, capitalisation).

If the customer selects “DHL Express” but your conversion says “DHL express” or “DHL-Express”, the rule might not be applied.

3. Does the “To” value match the correct 3pl code?

Even if the conversion is used, the To value might be wrong.

Example mistake:

  • Your 3PL says DHL Express should use code 25407.

  • But in TRAEDE, you accidentally entered 25410 (another code, maybe for GLS).

Result:

  • Whenever a customer chooses DHL Express, the order is converted to 25410.

  • The 3PL treats the order as the wrong carrier/service.

Always verify:

  • The From name = Webshop shipping method name

  • The To value = Shipping code from your 3PL’s official list

4. Are you unsure about your 3pl shipping codes?

If you are in doubt:

  • Contact your 3PL and ask for a list (Excel sheet or document) of all shipping codes you are using.

  • Go through the table and make sure each From value in TRAEDE is mapped to the correct To code for the right carrier/service.
