Creating packaging products

  • Updated

Packaging products represent the physical packaging your goods ship with — boxes, polybags, hangtags, carrier bags, and so on. The material, packaging type, and weight you set here are what the packaging report uses to produce your EPR filings, so this data needs to be accurate.

Creating a packaging product

  1. Go to Products and click Add Product.
  2. In the Product type section, select Packaging.
  3. Fill in the product as usual: name, item number, and a sales price. Most packaging products are simple products without variants.
  4. In the EPR / Packaging section, select the Packaging material and Packaging type. Both are required for packaging products.
  5. Optionally check Reusable packaging (genbrug / återanvändbar / ombrukbar) and select an Environmental grade (DK / SE traffic light).
  6. Click Save.

Important: The product type can only be chosen when the product is created. You cannot change a finished product into a packaging product later.

To edit the EPR fields on an existing packaging product, open the product, go to the Master data tab, update the EPR / Packaging section, and click Save settings.

Setting the weight

Every packaging product must have a weight — it is what turns "number of boxes used" into the kilograms your EPR filings are based on. Traede uses the Gross weight of the packaging product (or its variant), and falls back to Net weight if no gross weight is set.

  1. Open the packaging product and go to Master data.
  2. Enter the Gross weight and select the Gross weight definition (Gram or Kilogram).
  3. Click Save settings.

Important: If a packaging product without a weight is used on an invoice, the invoice cannot be booked. The error message names the packaging item, for example: "Cannot book invoice or credit note because packaging variant Brown box M (SKU: BOX-M) is missing weight". Set the weight on the packaging product and book again.
